Business.

Just the sound of the word kinda get’s to me.
It feels like it’s somewhere elderly old barons in suits belongs.
Not me.
I would though, if business was something more than business.
If marketing was something more than using spreading noisy messages to potential clients.
If employees was something companies embraced.
If businesses could change from one day to another.
They can’t - because they are businesses.
if you look inside an organisation - how many people do you think are actually working to embrace new ideas - to make their clients happy, to create products that are worth buying ?…
And how many people sit around and actually lives their life being core of the business and the controling factor of the employees ? For business to change we need to create a business environment that is suited for changes. For every person within the company to take a ball and run with it…

Now please help me out and go and vote for it so I can get to write the manifesto…

entrepreneurship school : 2 1/2 weeks down the road

Posted in freelancing by Henriette |

so.. Toothless Tiger is going really well ( big YEY). Which also means that Im blogging waaaay much more on the Toothless Tiger blog than here… This is my personal blog, but since Toothless pretty much is my personal life these days, much of the action is happening over there..

SO ! my first lesson in selftaught entrenpreneurship is: I need to get out of here, I must find an office where I don’t have 1000 silly excuses for NOT working… I borrowed a desk from Troels the other day (at his office called basement) and I was highly effective… more effective than I am at home.

So now I am looking for desks… everywhere across the city of CPH… then I can’t do any napping, washing, singing etc or anything else during my workday…

One thing that I am really happy that I decided to invest in is highrise and a free productivity tool called hiveminder

So I am still working on my workethics.. apart from that I am enjoying freelancing in a way that is extremely positive for me… this is what I was supposed to do..=)

launching or erhm relaunching IRL

June 11th, 2008

Posted in In Real Life, Toothless Tiger by Henriette |

IRL (In Real Life) is a baby of mine that I have been nurturing ever since I started Toothless Tiger in 2005.

It dawned at the first CPH geekdinner in October 2005. To start out with all of IRL was a wiki, where the IRL web arrangements was presented and people could sign up for them. The tagline back then was “IRL- serving the danish blogosphere since 1895″.

In total there was made 6 geekdinners.

In november 2006 BarCampCopenhagen saw the break of day, also an IRL activity.

This was followed up by the BarCampCopenhagen on the 25th of January 2008, and there will be yet another Barcamp on the 22th of November 2008.

In the fall of 2007 I teamed up with the fantastic Laura Kiralfy to get the web people of Denmark to be inspired by art, at the socalled “Art Day Out”. as of yesterday. (june 2008) the IRL framework is relaunched.

It even has it’s own webpage… IRL is going to embrace all of the above mentioned and is basically going to be a “continous BarCamp” - existing everyday… We call it “IRL - Offline stuff for online people” and it’s a network of cool online personalities ( or the more correct professional web enthusiasts)

The first “official” IRL event is CPH Girl Geekdinner no. 1 and Workshop: Community building - next level

Today IRL is driven by Toothless Tiger and Laura Kiralfy and you can visit us on :

Facebook - where you can befan os ( please ?)

Be apart of the linkedin group

So.. this is my first day as a freelancer (and first workday as newly-wed)… and there’s a lot to be taken care of. As I have previously written on this blog, Thomas has given me a lot of freelancing books on how to manage everything. I am currently looking into deploying a good workethic working at home.

So the first steps will be:

- No checking email except for lunch and after work

- using productivity tools to actually keep in mind what I should be doing (The last thing I do when the workday is over is that I set new to-do’s for the day after

- no IM or Skype unless necessary

- no naps ( even though I love a good mid-morning nap)

I have an idea that this is going to be a freelance blog for a while now =) anyway, I hope you like my considerations

what is there to a name ? a rose is still a rose

May 22nd, 2008

Posted in personal by Henriette |

So - at this point there is 2 days until I become mrs. Thomas Kristiansen - meaning that I no longer only will be “Henriette Weber Andersen” - but my new full name will be “Henriette Weber Andersen Kristiansen”.

So far I haven’t really taken the big jump into using Kristiansen as my main surname - and I haven’t really used Andersen recently - so these days I am just using Henriette Weber… which I have always liked.

But I am worried that I will loose a part of myself or become someone else when I take on Kristiansen. Which is quite ridiculous..

But what if my selfperception change because my name changes?… I am sure that Kristiansen is an addition to my personality and not a subtraction at all.

I mean if you have 3 surnames you really have to live up to it. Speaking of changes it was my last day at my old job yesterday. I am so happy to be out of there, really it was such a limitation to my free spirit.

Today I got up at 5 and started working on heltinder.dk because I am change of the new and improved webdesign ( well as new and improved as the CMS allows)… I feel like painting again, I feel like writing all the time, I am sure this is the right path for me.

So new paths to thread for me - and boy, it’s gonna be exciting =)

fighting for something bigger than the environment

May 19th, 2008

Posted in culture, tendencies by Henriette |

Today it seems like we’re in the fight for something bigger than “just” the environment. Apparently it looks like we are the generation who is going to take on the biggest battle.

We have 4 global crisis’ going on in the world today:

1. the enviromental crisis

2. the food crisis

3. the oil crisis

4. the financial crisis

To me it might not be a coincidence that all these crisis’ are coming at the same time.

I think what the world needs now is “something” that can guide us through this all the way - and I don’t think that the leaders of every nation in the world is going to be capable of agreement.

In the danish newspaper information there has been a couple of articles lately describing the crisis in the overall global system.

One was called “the end of a supercyclus” and argues that the russian economist Nikolai Kondratiev, probably was right after all.

He argues that after 50-60 years of growth - the system needs to reinvent itself. So is there a new depression coming like in the 30s ? - could be….

On the other hand you have a more participatory environment ever ! - existing on the internet.

I am sure that we all are going to have a huge impact on this when everything comes to everything.

People that does something instead of just watching TV.

In my eyes the future looks bright - but exciting ! - and I think this is a test that all humans needs to get together and actually act upon as a whole.

I am not frightened but I think that 2008 is going to be a year of dramatic changes - in everybody’s lifes…

focus: what I can do instead of what I can’t do

May 14th, 2008

Posted in Toothless Tiger by Henriette |

So Thomas finally gave me my valentines day present yesterday. It was worth waiting for ( I love the idea of buying stuff for people when you see it - instead of finding something stupid for a special occasion).

I got a book called “how to be a rockstar freelancer” - now if you have followed me on my Toothless Tiger blog - you would have seen my rants about how companies shouldn’t organise themselves as companies - but as rockbands. So this book was right down my alley. And the outlook that I will begin freelancing again from june 1st, this book is a real catch ( also it is published on lulu.com -which my book (raw text finished by august 1st) also will be.

But it identifies all the different problems/episodes I have been having since I decided to start Toothless Tiger 4 years ago.

the first thing as a freelancer I take away from this book is “focus on what you can do, instead of what you can’t do”.. I think it’s highly recommendable =)

Women in tech is 16 year old girls in fashion - apparently

Mary Hodder whom I had the pleasure to meet at e-handelsprisen 2008 blogged in february about an article in the NY times , that would probably make a vast ammount of my female tech peers rant as well.

Enjoy and beware of the “feminisation of the internet” =)

pan retronization project: updates and boatoffice thoughts for the future

April 27th, 2008

Posted in Toothless Tiger by Henriette |

So here’s what has been happening to Pan lately. First of all we are discussing renaming her to “Pan the pirate” or “Pan the pirate grrl” because she’s gonna have a brand new identity when we’re done with her. Still it’s really hard work but we are starting to get somewhere. Here’s what happened:

Pan is now officially taken out of the water (please note the lovely algas on the bottom of it)

Starting cleaning the boat and taking out the water

Penny the sailor getting ready to start taking of the old paint.

So after a weekend of taking of paint on the inside of the boat - we have a come a long way and have found out that we need a paint removing tool until next weekend ( all 3 of us had paint in our hair, noses and ears after the beginning of the paint-removal job. ( we need to do both the interior and exterior of it)

After talking to an expert (Thomas’ dad) and subscribing to all kinds of boat forums ( where we have no idea what people are talking about) we have decided to start by ensuring the boat is completely dry and staying that way.

This means that we will have to use around 8000 DKR ( ruffly 1750 dollars) on 3 skylights and new rubber for the windows. So we need find those money somewhere… All in all Pan is gonna be costly and around 100.000 DKR in total ( new engine and all)

Maybe I should set up a paypal account and hope that the blogosphere will take this lovely boat in their arms and own it with us.

anyway… My thought is quite wacky. But when Pan is done being retronized - it will be the official Toothless Tiger office. Yes and it will be the first danish boat coworking place.

Is it just me - or wouldn’t it be incredibly cool ? … it makes sense to me =)

Oh and if you have any ideas for funding - please let me know.

April 11th, 2008

Posted in Toothless Tiger by Henriette |
